Malaise at Man United not simply down to de Gea alone

The decline of a great club cannot be pinned down to one man, and even if they could, blaming David de Gea for the struggles of Manchester United is a peculiarly cockeyed misjudgment.

Certainly, the goalkeeper's errors in successive games against Barcelona, Everton and Manchester City have been, by his standards, calamitous. But those are such exulted standards - the four years out of seven that de Gea has been United's best player, and arguably, the star goalkeeper in the whole of the Premier League.
