Football: Vogts leaves Azerbaijan post, say reports

BAKU (AFP) - Azerbaijan's German coach Berti Vogts has resigned from his position, the country's media reported on Friday.

Reports said that he had informed Azerbaijan football federation chief Rovnag Abdullayev about his decision, adding that he could not continue in the post under existing conditions.

The 67-year-old, who led Germany to the European Championship title in 1996, also accused his players of lacking physical condition and character in their recent matches, according to the reports.

Azerbaijan are currently rock bottom of their Euro 2016 qualifying Group H after losing all three matches so far, including a 6-0 thrashing by Croatia on Monday.

Vogts, a World Cup winner as a West Germany player in 1974, took over the Azerbaijan reins in March 2008.
