Football: Nine Crest Secondary students to attend week-long training camp at Valencia

Singapore - Nine recipients of the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim (SOF-Peter Lim) Scholarship will travel to Spain on Monday night for a week-long training stint at Spanish club Valencia, which Singaporean billionaire Lim owns.

The training camp, dubbed the SOF-Peter Lim Amunt Valencia Football Camp, will be held at the club's GloVal Academy. There, the nine student-athletes, aged 14-15 and who hail from Crest Secondary School, will be trained by the academy's coaches.

Besides training, they will also play a friendly match against Monte Sion Football Club, go on a tour of the club's Mestalla Stadium and watch the La Liga clash between Valencia and Getafe on Dec 19.

Zamanuriki Zamnuri, 15, said: "I can't wait to train under the watch of the Valencia trainers and hope that I will be able to improve my football skills after this experience. I am very grateful to Singapore Olympic Foundation, Mr Peter Lim and Valencia for this special opportunity."

Joining the nine scholarship recipients are another eight student-athletes and four coaches from Crest Secondary School, Northlight School and St Joseph's Institution (International) participating in this camp.

Ng Ser Miang, chairman of the SOF, said: "We hope this experience will encourage them to aspire for greater heights in sports and we hope they will enjoy the Valencian hospitality and culture."
