Football: LionsXII start new Malaysian Super League season with 5-3 win over PDRM

The LionsXII began the 2015 Malaysian Super League (MSL) season in thrilling style with a 5-3 win over PDRM at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday night.

Fandi Ahmad's team, whose biggest problem is goalscoring last year, found their shooting boots in style by racing to a five-goal lead against the Malaysian police outfit.

Winger Gabriel Quak opened his account in the 21st minute when he controlled a long ball, rounded the goalkeeper before finishing. Faris Ramli added a second on the stroke of half-time after forward Khairul Amri's shot was parried onto the winger's path.

Two minutes after the break, midfielder Izzdin Shafiq's chip was headed into his own net by a PDRM defender. In the 56th minute, Amri penetrated down the left flank to deliver a low cross for left-back Hafiz Sujad to slam home. The hosts' scoring was complete after forward Sahil Suhaimi curled in a free-kick.

However, ex-Malian international forward Dramane Traore netted a hat-trick to reduce the deficit for PDRM.
