SINGAPORE - The LionsXII will welcome familiar faces once again after being drawn with Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II) in Group A of the 2015 Malaysia Cup at a draw held in PJ Hilton Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday afternoon.
Singapore national team captain Shahril Ishak and veteran defender Baihakki Khaizan both play for JDT II. In 2013, both players were part of the LionsXII side that won the Malaysia Super League ( MSL).
Last year, the LionsXII were also drawn with JDT II with the Malaysian side claiming a 2-2 draw at the Jalan Besar Stadium before beating the LionsXII 2-1 at the Pasir Gudang Corporation Stadium.
Terengganu, who finished fourth in the 12-team MSL this season and Kedah, who won the second tier Malaysia Premier League (MPL), complete Group A. The first round of group matches will be played on Sept 12.
Fandi Ahmad's charges will be looking to do better than last year when they bowed out of the group stages after finishing third in a group which included Pahang, JDT II and Felda United.
The LionsXII, who finished seventh in the league this year, have already won silverware this campaign. They claimed the Malaysia FA Cup with a 3-1 victory over Kelantan in May.
