Football: Lions beat Bangladesh 2-1 to record first victory of the year

Without a win since a 4-2 victory over Myanmar in last November's Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup, Singapore's national football team finally ended the winless spell by beating Bangladesh 2-1 in a friendly on Saturday evening.

Bangladesh drew first blood in the fourth minute when centre-back Nasiruddin Chowdhury headed in a free-kick but Warriors FC striker Fazrul Nawaz equalised in the 32nd minute when he pounced on a loose ball.

Striker Khairul Amri hammered home a shot from outside the box in the 72nd minute to seal victory.

The Lions, who are preparing for the World Cup qualifiers in June, will play Brunei in another friendly at home next Saturday. Details on the venue will be announced later.
