HUDDERSFIELD, England (REUTERS) - With 13 goals for club and country in the month of September, including seven in the past week, Tottenham striker Harry Kane's form is leaving his manager struggling for words.
Four days after scoring a hat-trick at Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League and a week after a brace against West Ham United, Kane struck twice as his side romped to a 4-0 Premier League victory at Huddersfield on Saturday (Sept 30).
"It's so difficult to find words to say about Harry Kane every three days, to find different words to describe him," Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters.
"He's fantastic."
Kane's prolific form is drawing all manner of comparisons but one statistic suggests he is now among the very best.
The 24-year-old has now scored 84 Premier League goals, equalling the tally reached by Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United.
It took Ronaldo 196 matches to score those while Kane has got to the mark in 73 fewer games.
Kane's first goal demonstrated his work-rate, awareness and clinical finishing as he took advantage of hesitant defending from Huddersfield, winning the ball and bursting goalwards before slotting past Jonas Lossl.
His second - and Tottenham's third - 14 minutes later was a superb piece of individual skill as he dropped a shoulder to lose two markers and beat Lossl with a magnificent left-foot shot.
When he was replaced in the final moments of the game, the Huddersfield fans showed their appreciation for the England striker with a standing ovation.
Such generosity is rarely seen at Premier League grounds but Kane is a rarity himself - a world-class English player in a league dominated by foreign imports.
"(They were) recognising one of the best players in England and his country love him, that is so important," said Pochettino.
"I think it was fantastic. I am so proud to be a manager in England," he said.
While Kane's finishing ability has been evident in the past week, Pochettino said there were other parts of his game that did not always get recognised.
"When we don't have the ball, he is the first that is available to run, to fight, to work hard for the team and that mentality is fantastic, it makes him one of the best strikers in the world," the Argentine said.
"He is a very good example for everyone, for football, he is so humble, he is helping the team every three or four days to win games. I think we are lucky to have a player like him," Pochettino added.
Kane, who did not manage a goal in August, hopes he and Spurs can maintain their current momentum.
"Goals to games it is be probably the best month I have had, especially after August. I feel good, I feel confident and I am there to put the goals away," he said.
"We have to continue this after the international break."
