The inaugural BeritaHarian.sg National Futsal Championship has met with overwhelming response with 265 teams signing up to compete.
The two-day tournament, organised by the digital section of Singapore's Malay language daily, will be held on May 30-31 at Home United Youth Football Academy (HYFA) and the popularity of the event surpassed expectations.
Nearly 300 teams signed up by the time the registration period ended in late April and this exceeded the initial target of 264 teams.
The organisers then trimmed the number of entries to 265 teams competing in six categories: Under-12, Under-14, Under-18, Under-35, Above-35 and Women.
The champions for the U-12, U-14 and U-18 categories will each win a trophy, medals and $700 in cash, while the winners of the U-35 and A-35 categories will each win a trophy, medals and $1,000 in cash. The winner of the Women's category will win a trophy, medals and $500 in cash.
In addition, the champions for U-35, A-35 and Women categories will also win more than $19,000 worth of air tickets sponsored by AirAsia, the championship's official airline partner.
