Football: Geylang hold Albirex to a stalemate, maintain unbeaten start

Geylang International maintained their unbeaten start to the season by holding Albirex Niigata to a 0-0 draw on Thursday night at Bedok Stadium.

Geylang started the game well and nearly opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Argentinian midfielder Carlos Delgado saw his volley from inside the box hit the cross-bar.

Albirex then thought they had scored in the 38th minute when defender Naofumi Tanaka headed in from a corner, only to be ruled out by the referee for an infringement on Geylang goalkeeper Syawan Buhari.

Stanely Ng was the next Geylang player to fluff his lines in the 62nd minute when he saw his shot saved by goalkeeper Nozawa after the ball fell loose to him in the penalty area.

In the end, there was no separating the two sides as the game peltered out to a 0-0 draw.

Both Albirex and Geylang will next play Warriors FC at Jalan Besar Stadium in their next S-League games on Mar 18 and Apr 1 respectively.

In the night's other game, Garena Young Lions lost to Hougang United 1-3 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
