What a difference a year makes in the life of Ed Woodward. This time last year, the Red Devils' newly-appointed chief executive was a much parodied figure as his fumbling attempts to sign players were met with derision by the fans.

The summer transfer window ended with the last minute capture of Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini - and the less said about him, the better.

Just as it appeared that everything was going pear-shaped again this year, Woodward pulled off the blockbuster triple swoop of Real Madrid's Angel Di MAria, Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Daly Blind and Monaco striker Radamel Falcao just as the window shut.

And while the Red Devils have yet to taste victory this season, fans have been heartened by the club finally flexing their financial muscle.
