N'Golo Kante was voted Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year in 2016-17. In many respects, however, it was an award for two seasons of excellence.

He was the driving force in successive title-winning campaigns for teams who had finished 14th and 10th respectively 12 months earlier. He was so ubiquitous that he was like an extra man.
