BURNLEY, United Kingdom (AFP) - Burnley and Huddersfield fought out an uninspiring 0-0 draw at Turf Moor on Saturday (Sept 23) with neither side able to capitalise on the opportunity to scale the dizzy heights towards the top of the Premier League.

The two teams, playing for the first time in England's top-flight since 1971, started the day in unfamiliar territory, with newly promoted Huddersfield in sixth and Burnley just one place below them.

A cagey start saw chances at a premium but the home side missed a good opportunity to take the lead midway through the first half, when in-form striker Chris Wood headed wide from a Stephen Ward cross.

David Wagner's Huddersfield, with only one goal in their previous four matches, gained a foothold against Sean Dyche's Burnley as the first period wore on.

But the away side were grateful for a vital interception from Christopher Schindler as the Huddersfield defender hooked Ward's cross away from goal, with New Zealand's Wood waiting to pounce.

Huddersfield went close early in the second half, with Laurent Depoitre seeing his shot saved by goalkeeper Nick Pope after Tom Ince fed the striker on the edge of the box.

A flurry of substitutions failed to break the deadlock and both sides remain comfortably in mid-table.

Going into the match Burnley had won the same number of Premier League home matches as Manchester United (11) since August 2016 and only one fewer than Manchester City.
