Football: Arsenal, Chelsea into Champions League last 16

PARIS (AFP) - Arsenal and Chelsea eased into the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday to make it three English sides in the knockout round.

Arsenal defeated Olympiakos in Greece 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from French striker Olivier Giroud to secure second place in Group F behind Bayern Munich.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea saw off his former team Porto 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to take top spot in Group G.

Dynamo Kiev leapfrogged Porto into the second qualification place thanks to a 1-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Barcelona, who had already qualified for the next round as Group E winners, drew 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen which allowed Roma to take second spot after a 0-0 draw at BATE Borisov.

Valencia, with Gary Neville in the coaching hot-seat for the first time, were unable to make it four Spanish teams going through when they lost 2-0 at home to Lyon in Group H.

Zenit St Petersburg had already topped Group H and they were joined in the next stage by tournament debutants Gent, who beat the Russians 2-1.

The draw for the last 16 takes place at Uefa's headquarters in Nyon next Monday.
