World Cup 2018: Figurine out the winners

The World Cup kicks of in Russia on June 14, with 32 teams fighting for football's biggest prize. Brazil and Germany are among the favourites but the only certainty is that there will be plenty of twists and turns until the final whistle blows on July 15

After extensive tea-leaf reading, a keen study of the rankings, and investigating history, there is only one conclusion we can come to: Selecting this year's World Cup champions is as easy as predicting which arm a clairvoyant octopus will use to make its pick.

It is hard to tell who will be the last team standing on July 15 because tradition in recent times has been turned on its head.
