Former England team captain David Beckham breezed into town over the weekend to help Marina Bay Sands launch its Christmas celebrations.

The 39-year-old, who is also Sands ambassador, helped turn on the Christmas lights for the integrated resort in a ceremony at the skating rink on Saturday evening. A crowd of more than 1,000 had gathered for a glimpse of Beckham.

The dapper football star had, earlier in the afternoon, joined some 200 youth and children from Association for Persons with Special Needs, Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centres and Student Care Service for a question-and-answer as well as a photo-taking session.

These beneficiaries of Sands' designated charities also received presents contributed by the Sands staff.
