His success up front masks Arsenal's lack of investment in midfield, defence and youth

It was uncharacteristic short-termism. Arsene Wenger was famous for buying young, for prioritising potential, a policy that gave Arsenal the prospect of a profit.

However, the Frenchman's last two striker signings do not. Lacazette will be 29 in May. Aubameyang is already 30. The Gabonese enters the last 18 months of his contract, with Lacazette's deal up the following year. Aubameyang is yet to re-sign amid talk of a dream move to Barcelona.
