SYDNEY (AFP) - The United Arab Emirates stunned Japan 5-4 on penalties to reach the Asian Cup semi-finals after the teams were locked at 1-1 after extra time on Friday.

Ismail Ahmed struck the winner after Shinji Kagawa's effort hit the post.

Gaku Shibasaki had earlier scored in the 81st minute to cancel out Ali Mabkhout's opener and force extra time.
