Sometimes the king has fallen so far that the best he can do is to become the kingmaker. Embroiled in a battle for sixth, Jose Mourinho will not win his fourth Premier League title this season. But, for the second time, he could play a pivotal part in denying Liverpool the crown.

Go back to 2014 and Brendan Rodgers' Reds had 11 straight victories. Then Mourinho executed a tactical masterclass with a depleted team as Steven Gerrard slipped, Chelsea won at Anfield and Manchester City became champions.
