Football: Tampines beat Warriors to win Great Eastern Charity Shield

Tampines Rovers captured the Great Eastern Charity Shield with a 2-1 win over Warriors FC at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday evening.

The clash between last year's Great Eastern-YEO'S S-League champions and RHB Singapore Cup winners ended in favour of the former, thanks to first-half goals by defender Kunihiro Yamashita (eighth minute) and Khairul Amri (12th).

Warriors striker Sufian Anuar halved the deficit 10 minutes after the break but V. Selvaraj's side failed to threaten the Tampines goal again.

Both sides now turn their attention to their opening S-League fixtures - Tampines face Geylang International at the Bedok Stadium on Feb 20, while the Warriors travel to Woodlands Wellington a day later.
