Football: Singapore U-23s defeat Indonesia counterparts 1-0 in friendly

The Singapore Under-23 football team have beaten the Indonesian U-23s 1-0 in a friendly match at Jalan Besar Stadium.

In the ninth minute, winger Faris Ramli was brought down inside the box by Indonesian defender Syahrizal. Striker Shahfiq Ghani stepped up to gave Singapore the lead when he placed the resultant penalty into the bottom-right corner.

The closest Indonesia came was in the 38th minute when forward Yohanes Ferinando Pahabol's free-kick struck the post.

The match was also significant as the Singapore National Olympic Council will decide next month if V. Sundramoorthy's side have performed well enough to represent the country at December's South-east Asia Games in Myanmar.
