National football coach Bernd Stange was honoured on Monday morning with the German Football Ambassador award, for his positive representation of the country through sport and social engagement.
The 65-year-old was one of five nominees for the inaugural award, alongside Juergen Klinsmann, Otto Pfister, Michael Weiss and Holger Obermann.
Obermann, the first German football professional to play in the United States in 1961, eventually won the award, but all five nominees received prize money.
"Bernd has done a very good job presenting Germany to the world," said Roland Bischof, who founded the initiative in 2011.
The award came with a €1,000 (S$1,700) reward, which Stange donated the Singapore Cerebral Palsy Football Team.
