Football: LionsXII stage late comeback to beat hosts Terengganu 2-1 in M'sian Super League

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 10-man LionsXII staged a late comeback Tuesday evening to defeat Terengganu 2-1 at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium and cement top spot in the Malaysian Super League.

The winning goal required a huge slice of luck, with Terengganu's Hasmizan Kamarodin heading Shahril Ishak's free-kick into his own net in stoppage time.

Attacking midfielder Ismail Faruqi had fired the hosts ahead in the 64th minute, tapping in from close range after good work down the left by substitute G. Puaneswaran.

The LionsXII hit back 11 minutes from the end as Baihakki Khaizan met Shahril's corner with a towering header.

V. Sundramoorthy's side then found themselves reduced to 10 men, when right-back Madhu Mohana received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

But Hasmizan's late own goal meant that the LionsXII claimed just their second away victory this season, which takes them to 31 points from 15 matches.
