NEW YORK (AFP) - French star Thierry Henry was among 10 players named Sunday as members of the Major League Soccer All-Stars squad that will face Italy's AS Roma in the MLS All-Star Game on July 31 at Kansas City.
Henry, a 35-year-old striker for New York who helped France to the 1998 World Cup, has six goals in 17 matches this year for the Red Bulls. He was a former Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona standout before his 2010 US move.
Peruvian goalkeeper Raul Fernandez of FC Dallas, Canadian national team midfielder Will Johnson and French defender Aurelien Collin of Kansas City were the other non-US players voted into the lineup by MLS supporters.
Chicago midfielder Mike Magee, who has 10 goals this season, was joined on the select squad by five fellow Americans from the US national team - San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski, Houston midfielder Brad Davis, Los Angeles defender Omar Gonzalez and Kansas City's midfielder Graham Zusi and defender Matt Besler.
MLS All-Star coach Peter Vermes and MLS commissioner Don Garber will select other players for the MLS lineup, with Vermes deciding which players are on the final 18-man game roster that will face the Serie A squad.
