FAS wants to host Fifa World Youth Championship in 2019

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has announced plans to submit a bid to host the Fifa World Youth Championship in 2019.

FAS president Zainudin Nordin said: "We want to aim high. We are exploring the possibility of hosting the tournament and we are serious about it. It is not impossible."

Zainudin added: "Our experience in hosting the inaugural editions of Asian Youth Games in 2009 and Youth Olympic Games in 2010, coupled with the successful hosting of several high-profile international events such as the 117th International Olympic Committee Session in Singapore during the past few years, has given us the confidence."

There are two World Youth Championships that are organised biennially by Fifa - an Under-20 tournament and an U-17 event.

Apart from its proposed bid to host the prestigious tournament, Zainudin also revealed that the FAS will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the French Football Federation to send promising players and backroom staff for stints in France. The MOU is expected to be signed in Singapore in early October.
