While some football fans prefer to watch the World Cup in the comfort of their living rooms, others search for a convivial setting where they can enjoy good food and drinks as well.

If you fall into the latter category, The Straits Times has a treat in store for you.

In partnership with Wildseed Bar, ST is inviting 25 subscribers to watch this Saturday's World Cup 2018 Group C match between France, world champions in 1998, and Australia.

The game kicks off at 6pm.

The month-long tournament in Russia is the planet's biggest sporting event. The 2014 edition drew 3.2 billion viewers.

Invitees to Wildseed Bar can bring a friend and each person will receive two complimentary beers (choice of Strongbow or Erdinger) or soft drinks and a bar snack worth $30 each. Vegetarian options are available as well.

ST sports editor Lee Yulin noted that this is the newspaper's first-ever World Cup viewing party and said: "The World Cup brings fans of all stripes together. And ST is thrilled to be able to allow our subscribers to indulge in their passion at such a unique location.

Wildseed Bar is nestled in the heart of the former Seletar Air Base, and, with its in-house garden, is as close to a rustic retreat as one can get in urban Singapore.

Its address is 3 Park Lane, Seletar Aerospace Park, Singapore 798387.

"One of the most unique places to catch the 2018 Fifa World Cup, Wildseed Bar is excited to be hosting the first backyard screening out in the north," said the bar's director for nightlife operations, Ian Sim.

And, if viewers work up an appetite during the screening, Wildseed also offers hearty grills which they can order at their own expense.

To sign up, register your interest via the SPH Rewards app (see box).

Registration is now open, and the invites will be given out on a first come, first served basis.

ST reader and civil servant Munish Advani is looking forward to being among the lucky 25 to get an invite.

"It's an early game, so there's no problem with the timing and I might just stay on to watch the Argentina-Iceland game (at 9pm) too if I'm able to get an invite," said the 46-year-old.
