Singapore bowler Shayna Ng showcased her mastery of the lanes to win the Republic's first-ever gold at the Women's World Bowling Championships yesterday.
The 26-year-old claimed the all-events title after amassing 5,587 pinfalls in the singles, doubles, trios and team events held at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
She finished atop the 147-strong field by a single pinfall, relegating American star Liz Johnson to second place.
South Korea's Jeon Eunhee finished third with 5,521 while Singaporean lefty Cherie Tan took fourth spot (5,466).
Ng called her triumph "sweeter and more special" than her 2012 win at the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup.
The 2014 Sportswoman of the Year said: "This is like the Olympics for women's bowling, and to beat a big name like Liz for the gold makes it even more memorable."
"She's a big name and everyone knows her on the American pro circuit but I've been really consistent here as well."
Ng later teamed up with compatriots Cherie Tan, Joey Yeo, New Hui Fen, Jazreel Tan and Daphne Tan for the team-of-five semi-finals.
But they had to settle for bronze after falling by a score of 1,026-1,105 to the United States, who went on to beat South Korea 1,168-1,060.
Nonetheless, even before the Masters event later today, Singapore are guaranteed of their best showing at the championships, which were first held in 2005.
For the first time, at least one of the country's keglers has finished in the top three positions in every single event. They had returned empty-handed from the last world meet in 2013 in Las Vegas.
Singapore Bowling Federation technical director Mervyn Foo said: "We are extremely happy with the entire team for showing class and consistency when it mattered.
"Shayna proved she's the No. 1 female bowler in the world right now but the team as a whole too have been outstanding, which is no surprise given how they have been training well."
With one gold, one silver and three bronzes in the bag, Ng has targeted the Masters crown to complete a decent year by her lofty standards.
At June's SEA Games in Singapore, she took home the trios gold and team silver medals.
She said: "The Masters will be my final event of the year. Ending on a high would be a great excuse to have a merry Christmas."
