Dutch cyclist Rabou joins OCBC team for 2013 season

THE OCBC Singapore Pro Cycling Team unveiled its 2013 roster today at a press conference, along with the announcement of a $160,000 annual sponsorship from OCBC for the next three years.

Dutchman Thomas Rabou, 29, from the United States' Competitive Cyclist Racing team and Singaporean Ryan Chan, 18, were revealed as the two new riders to the 11-men outfit. Rabou, a 2006 Tour of Siam champion and known for his climbing ability, has also tangled against the likes of Lance Armstrong and his Team Radioshack team-mates in the 2010 Tour of California.

Into their second season as a Union Cycliste International-licensed Continental racing outfit, the OCBC team hope to improve their results this year. Last year, they had one second-place finish in the UCI Asia Tour.

Said team manager Justin Cheong: "We had a good first season, but I don't believe we have achieved all we are capable of yet. We tasted some success last year, but this year, a major target will be to place a Singaporean rider on the podium in a UCI race."
