Last year's runner-up Dan Excel won the $3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup (SIA Cup) tonight at the Singapore Turf Club.

The six-year-old gelding started from a favourable barrier one and rode close to the rail throughout, before bursting to victory in the final furlong ahead of Smoking Sun and last year's winner Military Attack.

Dan Excel's victory meant Australian John Moore is the first trainer in the SIA Cup's 14-year history to win the 2,000m race back-to-back.

Meanwhile, defending champion and pre-race favourite Lucky Nine retained its title in the $1 million KrisFlyer International Sprint.
