Cycling: New high-speed race to thrill fans at OCBC Cycle

A NEW high-speed, spectator-friendly race will headline the latest edition of the OCBC Cycle showpiece on Aug 29-30 at the Sports Hub.

The Speedway Club Championship and SEA Championship races will see teams of four cyclists ride a total of 10 laps in pairs around a fast 1km course. The first two cyclists will ride five laps before the second pair finish off the remaining laps.

The Club category will involve 15 local cycling outfits, while the SEA edition comprises teams from across the region battling for the top cash prize of $6,000.

Public registration for all the categories at the OCBC Cycle began on Monday at OCBC Centre in Chulia Street. Participants who show up in person on the first day will get discounts on registration fees and a chance to win prizes such as shopping vouchers and watches. Online registration for the public starts on Tuesday.

OCBC Group chief executive Samuel Tsien said: "Over the past six months, we have been busy putting together what we are proud to consider a truly unique mass cycling event.

"From little tots to grandpas, from casual cyclists to professionals, OCBC Cycle is for everyone who loves to pedal."
