SINGAPORE – Throughout a 30-minute virtual interview which was disrupted by multiple technical glitches, Chris Froome remained unflustered, accommodating requests to rejoin the call and repeat his answers.

The Kenya-born Briton was cheerful and cordial, even taking an effort to make conversation with The Straits Times from his living room in Monaco, but beneath this friendly exterior is a man who understands pain like few others.
