SINGAPORE - In his day job, Dr Hing Siong Chen is a frontliner, a general practitioner who handles the swabbing of potential Covid-19 patients at an Ang Mo Kio clinic among other duties.

He has tackled the development of cycling in Singapore with the same diligence and sense of purpose. The result: A year of historic milestones that has seen a Singaporean race for a professional team in Europe for the first time and the nation's first podium finish at a mountain bike UCI World Cup.
