LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Los Angeles Lakers star Nick Young was robbed of around US$500,000 (S$700,000) worth of cash, jewellery and valuables during a burglary at his home, authorities said on Thursday (March 9).

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the burglary took place between Feb 18 and 19 at his luxury home in the Los Angeles suburb of Tarzana.

A report on TMZ.com said about US$30,000 in cash was stolen during the raid, with other valuables including gold chains, a custom-made ring and an entire locked safe also stolen.

The break-in occurred while Young was in New Orleans at the NBA All-Star Game.

The 31-year-old NBA standout purchased his US$3.4 million home with then-girlfriend, rapper Iggy Azalea, in 2014.

It is the second time Young has been targeted by burglars. He was previously the victim of a US$100,000 heist at a prior home.

Young is among a string of sports stars and celebrities who have been burgled in recent months.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was relieved of US$170,000 worth of valuables in a raid last month, while singer Alanis Morissette had US$2 million in jewellery stolen during a break-in at her home last month.
