Badminton: Singapore mixed doubles pair make OUE S'pore Open last eight

Singapore's top mixed doubles pair Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Vanessa Neo booked a place in the quarter-finals of the OUE Singapore Open after they won their round of 16 match on Thursday.

The Singaporeans, ranked No. 16 in the world, beat South Korean pair Choi Sol Kyu and Chae Yoo Jung 24-22, 21-14.

After a tense opening game, the duo was able to win the second game - and match - swiftly against their No. 46 opponents.

Said Chrisnanta: "I'm very happy because we lost to them the last time we played. Today, we were able to play our game, we were confident and we gave them pressure."

The Singapore pair had played the same opponents at the Korea Grand Prix Gold in 2013, losing in three games.

They will play either Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir or Reginald Lee and Chau Hoi Wah of Hong Kong on Friday.

Singapore's Chen Jiayuan, the Republic's other representative left in the main draw, is scheduled to play Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying later in the evening.
