Athletics: Shanti Pereira equals 29-year-old women's 200m record at World Youth C'ships

National sprinter Shanti Pereira clocked 24.54sec in the women's 200m heats at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Friday.

She equalled Prema Govindan's 1984 mark in the event. This comes just two days after the 16-year-old had smashed the national record in the century sprint, after clocking 11.89 to eclipse Amanda Choo's 12.01 mark, set in 2010.

Shanti, a Republic Polytechnic student, finished third out of eight in Heat Six and will progress to the semi-final on Saturday.
