SINGAPORE - For the first time, the National Stadium will play host to four consecutive athletics events from April 28 to May 8.

This will include three meets and one athletics fiesta for the public, catering activities and action to all ages and abilities.

The Singapore Open will be held on April 28-29, with the final day of the Schools National Track and Field Championships held concurrently on April 29. The ActiveSG Athletics Fiesta will follow from April 30-May 1, while the Asia Masters Athletics Championships will take place from May 4-8.

In running the events together, organisers hope to inspire the next generation of athletes and drive public interest and participation in the sport.

Said Singapore Athletics president Tang Weng Fei: "This is truly an all-encompassing season of athletics which will see participation from athletes aged 13 to 99. The opportunity to compete alongside some of the region's best athletes in the iconic National Stadium at the Singapore Sports Hub will surely inspire our local athletes to put in their best during the competition."

Added director of the Ministry of Education's student development curriculum division Liew Wei Li: "Holding the National School Games track and field finals at the National Stadium will also allow more students and parents to support the student athletes and share a thrilling and meaningful experience."

The ActiveSG Athletics Fiesta will have free activities for all ages and abilities, such as a dance fitness parade and a 2km walk test.

Said Sport Singapore chief executive officer Lim Teck Yin: "This is not only about promoting excellence in athletics but also getting people to become interested and participate in the sport - whether as a competitor, spectator, volunteer, or to simply try it out. Essentially, it is about helping Singaporeans to pick a sport; play a sport; and eventually live better

through sport."
