Athletics: National sprinter Amirudin sprints to personal best in 100m with 10.46sec

SINGAPORE sprinter Muhammad Amirudin Jamal clocked a personal-best time of 10.46sec in the 100m race at the Malaysian Open Track and Field Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

He finished second behind Thailand's Jirapong Meenapra (10.37). Another Thai, Ruttapon Sowan, was third in 10.50.

Amirudin's time equalled compatriot Gary Yeo's silver-medal result at the 2011 SEA Games, and his form bodes well for the next Games edition in December in Myanmar.

Singapore's Shanti Pereira also took a bronze in the women's 100m. She clocked 11.95 during her semi-final, but managed only 12.05 in the final to finish behind Thailand's Neeranuch Klomdee (11.92) and Tassaporn Wannakit (12.03).
