SINGAPORE - Singapore marathoner Soh Rui Yong received a boost in his quest to qualify for this year's Rio de Janeiro Olympics when he was unveiled as the brand ambassador of homegrown food and beverage firm Yeo Hiap Seng (YHS) on Friday.
The one-year deal will see YHS pledge a five-figure sum (cash and in kind) to support Soh's bid to become the first Singaporean to qualify for the Olympics marathon event. In return, the reigning SEA Games champion will promote the brand and its isotonic drink H-Two-O.
Soh, 24, has to meet the qualifying mark of 2hr 19min by July 11. His current personal best, clocked in 2014, is 2:26:01.
In a press statement, YHS said it believes that Rui Yong's never-give-up attitude and his perseverance to always push himself to improve is a true embodiment of the brand's philosophy".
