Asian Youth Games: 25 more Singapore athletes get green light for Nanjing

Twenty-five national athletes have been added to the provisional squad for next month's Asian Youth Games in Nanjing.

The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) Appeal Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is also the SNOC president, convened on Monday morning to decide on the appeal cases after the initial contingent was announced last month.

The newcomers - from table tennis, fencing, athletics, swimming, badminton and football - are among 95 hopefuls for the Aug 16-24 Games. The contingent will be whittled down to 85 by the various national sports associations.

Singapore bagged nine golds, six silvers and 15 bronzes as hosts of the inaugural Games in 2009.
