Asian Games: Fencer Lim earns first medal for Team Singapore

INCHEON - Singapore fencer Lim Wei Wen clinched the Republic's first medal at the Incheon Asian Games on Saturday, when he claimed a bronze medal in the men's individual epee competition.

As there are no third-place play-offs in fencing, the 29-year-old earned the medal upon reaching the semi-finals, where he lost 6-15 to South Korea's Jung Jin Sun.

This is the first-ever fencing medal for Singapore, and 18th-seeded Lim earned it via beating three higher-seeded fencers in the knockout rounds, including second-seeded Aleksandrov Roman from Uzbekistan.

Lim has one more event left at the Incheon Asiad - the team epee competition on Tuesday.
