Asean Para Games: Thailand make short work of Malaysia in goalball, game over in 7 minutes

SINGAPORE - It was the rematch of last year's Asean Para Games men's goalball final, but once again, Thailand proved too good for Malaysia.

The defending champions took just seven minutes to trounce the Malaysians 10-0 in a preliminary-round match on Saturday morning. It was the shortest game of the competition so far.

Team captain Buncha Fankhamai was the star, scoring seven goals at Marina Bay Sands Hall D.

The Thais had also claimed last year's gold medal by the same scoreline.

Speaking through an interpreter, Thai coach Suthep Chobchuphol said: "The Malaysian team played really well today, and they have the size needed.

"We followed our plan because we studied how the opposite team plays beforehand. We knew where their weaknesses are."

In other matches, the Singapore men lost 2-12 to Malaysia while their female counterparts lost 3-13 to Laos.
