AFC Cup referees changed at the last minute; assisting CPIB in investigations

Three Lebanese referees slated to officiate tonight's Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup game between Tampines Rovers and India's East Bengal have been switched at the last minute after they arrived in Singapore this morning.

The Football Association of Singapore said in a statement that the three officials - referee Mr Ali Sabbagh and assistant referees Mr Ali Eid and Mr Abdallah Taleb - were picked up by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau this morning.

It added that the trio are currently assisting the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) in investigations.

Tonight's game between S-League champions Tampines and the I-League runners-up at the Jalan Besar Stadium will instead be officiated by a team of Thai and Malaysian referees, who were rushed in just hours before the 7.45pm kick-off.
