A Valencia surprise for young football player

Raffles Institution student Jonathan Chua showing a football jersey presented to him by visiting players from Spanish Primera Liga club Valencia yesterday.

The jersey was later autographed by the players.

Jonathan made headlines last month after turning down a penalty awarded to his side in the Schools National A Division boys' quarter-final against Anglo-Chinese Junior College.

Six past and present Valencia players surprised the Raffles striker when they walked into his classroom during his civics class. Among them were (from far left) Santi Mina, Jaume Domenech, Javi Fuego and Paco Alcacer.

They were at the Bishan school to honour the student for his sportsmanship and fair play.

Valencia are owned by Singapore billionaire and former RI boy Peter Lim, who bought the club in 2014.
