Beach volleyball fans here can expect four days crammed with action in next month's Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour Singapore tournament.
The organiser, the Volleyball Association of Singapore, announced yesterday that 126 teams across both genders from 32 countries have signed up for the June 21-24 event at Sentosa's Siloso Beach.
Canadian twins Nicole and Megan McNamara are among a number of talented duos due for the US$50,000 (S$67,000) event.
The 20-year-olds led the University of California, Los Angeles to their first National Collegiate Athletic Association beach volleyball title on May 6 and, two days later, made their professional debut at the FIVB World Tour event in Bangkok, finishing fourth.
Brazilians Josi Alves and Lili Maestrini will be the highest-ranked women's pair here at world No. 42, while Dhita Juliana and Putu Utami, and Jess Grimson and Victoria Palmer - the top-ranked pairs from Indonesia (60th) and England (85th) respectively - have also signed up.
Singaporean duo Lau Ee Shan and Ong Wei Yu, who competed at last month's Commonwealth Games, are also in the line-up.
The FIVB World Tour is a year-long series that runs from September to August, similar in format to tennis' pro circuits.
The 41 events are broken into five tiers, from one to five stars. The stop here is a two-star event.
Pool play is held over two days, with the second round and quarter-finals on June 23 and the semi-finals and finals on June 24. Daily tickets cost $20 and are available from Sistic's website.
There will also be a range of lifestyle events for fans during the tournament, including music festivals and night parties.
