While the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are "too close" for the Republic to win a medal, SingaporeSailing's high performance director Peter Cunningham is quietly confident the team can achieve the target four years later in Paris. He also wants to get more youngsters involved in the sport and to develop elite local coaches.

Rescue teams raced against time yesterday to pull out survivors from under the debris in two Indonesian provinces following last Saturday's tsunami. Experts warned that more deadly waves could slam the beaches as the volcanic island of Anak Krakatau continued to spew ash. The death toll rose to 281 yesterday, and scores were still missing.
