SINGAPORE – YouTrip users in Singapore can now exchange and store Malaysian ringgit directly in the app through a newly launched wallet, enabling them to secure better exchange rates with no hidden charges or foreign exchange mark-ups.

The feature is part of a broader push by the multi-currency payment platform to enhance cross-border spending convenience for users travelling to Malaysia.

To mark the launch, YouTrip is offering free shuttle bus rides between Singapore and Johor Bahru over four weekends, starting from April 19 and ending on May 11.

The service will run every 30 minutes from 9am to 9.30pm, ferrying passengers between Kranji MRT station and Mid Valley Southkey, a major JB mall. Users must pre-book their slots via links on YouTrip’s official Instagram or Telegram channel.

In addition to the shuttle service, YouTrip is offering 3 per cent cashback on all ringgit spending for the first 5,000 users who spend a minimum of S$200 cumulatively.

From April 16 to June 17, users can also earn up to 10 per cent cashback at selected retailers in Malaysia, including JD Sports, Caring Pharmacy, Lotus’s and selected Decathlon outlets.

The platform has already recorded a strong response to the ringgit wallet. On April 9, YouTrip saw a 130 per cent spike in in-app ringgit conversions after the currency weakened to 3.33 against the Singapore dollar.

In a press release on April 16, Mr Kelvin Lam, YouTrip’s chief operating officer, said the new features were designed to give users “greater control and flexibility” when managing their travel spending.

Licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, YouTrip operates in Singapore and Thailand. The platform includes a physical card and mobile app, and offers products for both consumers and businesses.

YouTrip has processed over US$10 billion (S$13.1 billion) in transactions annually in the two countries since turning profitable in April 2023.
