Yale-NUS to start with 50-strong faculty in August

Yale-NUS College has appointed a 50-strong faculty to welcome its first batch of students this August. Its president, Professor Pericles Lewis in a statement on Friday said the new faculty members were drawn from over 2,500 applications.

Among them are two holders of professorships from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation and Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple. Professor Scott Cook, who is the inaugural Tan Chin Tuan Professor of Chinese Studies, specialises in early Chinese intellectual history.

His counterpart Professor Jay Garfield, who is the first Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Professor of Humanities, has research expertise in Philosophy and Buddhism.

The liberal arts college plans to hire a total of 100 faculty members over the next few years.
