Woman claiming to need money for sick child arrested for suspected cheating

A 34-year-old woman suspected to be behind at least six cases of cheating in Yishun, was arrested on Friday afternoon in Mei Ling Street.

The woman would approach residents in Yishun and say that she needed money for medical treatment for her sick child. She added that she lived in the area and would give victims' a false unit number. She took between $30 and $50 in cash from residents and promised to repay them.

However, she lied about her address and the victims were never paid back. If convicted of cheating, she faces up to 10 years in jail, and a fine.
