New dining enclave Savourworld in Science Park Drive is going the whole hog to celebrate its first Oktoberfest in style, and subscribers to The Straits Times stand to win free tickets to this gourmet event happening from Oct 13 to 15. The first 10 subscribers to take part in the giveaway through the SPH Rewards app will each receive a pair of tickets to the event.
Enjoy classic German beer and hearty Bavarian fare while being entertained by a live Bavarian-style brass band at Savourworld's 13,000 sq ft event hall, which is set to take on all the ambience of a traditional German tavern.
Toast with Maisel's Weisse Original, a brand of wheat beer from one of Germany's oldest and most prestigious family-owned breweries.
Feast on Bavarian delights such as Crispy Pork Knuckle ($12 for quarter/$18 for half/$35 for whole), which comes with beer-braised sauerkraut and gravy, Mixed Grilled Sausage Platter ($17), Chicken Schnitzel ($13), Bavarian Roasted Spring Chicken ($15 for half), German-style Potato Salad ($8) and Pretzels with Mustard ($4).
Savourworld chief executive Michel Lu, 48, said the emphasis will be on fresh, top-quality beer and food that will offer great value for a gourmet experience.
"We arranged with the brewery to make a special shipment of the beer closer to our event so that it would be at its freshest," said Mr Lu.
Savourworld even designed and constructed a customised working kitchen especially for the special event, so that the chefs can cook right at the venue itself.
Instead of relying on precooked pork knuckles, Savourworld has ordered fresh chilled ones, which will be brined and roasted in-house for the classic Crispy Pork Knuckle.
ST readers can purchase tickets online via the ST Wine website.
For online bookings, each ticket is priced at $28 with a booking fee of $1. The price includes entry and a 500ml beer stein of Maisel's Weisse Original. Terms and conditions apply.

Activities include pony rides and an inflatable obstacle course. Attend parenting talks and workshops by ST journalists, ONE FM 91.3 radio deejay Shan Wee and ST Schools teaching specialist Debra Ann Francisco.
There are 35 family packs of tickets to be won in a contest for ST subscribers. Each family pack of four tickets is worth $172, with two tickets for adults and two for children. For contest details, go to the "Rewards" section of the SPH Rewards app.

Relish Szechuan dishes cooked to your preferred level of spiciness at Fairmont Singapore's Szechuan Court and Kitchen where ST subscribers get to enjoy a 20 per cent discount off dining when they present the ST e-card (see sidebar on getting the e-card).
Head chef Mok Wan Lok, 51, said in Mandarin: "Szechuan cuisine is much more than just fiery spiciness. We want customers to fully enjoy the variety of flavours at a level of spiciness that they are comfortable with."
The latest addition to the menu is the Braised Garoupa Fillet With Brinjal And Szechuan Peppercorn Sauce. Thick slices of garoupa are accompanied by a colourful selection of red, yellow and green bell peppers, Thai eggplant and bunashimeji mushroom. The dish is flavoured with the aromatic spiciness of Szechuan chilli pepper and peppercorn.
For a more casual dining experience, try Szechuan Kitchen's signature Braised Beef Brisket Noodles, one of Chef Mok's personal favourites. The beef brisket is lean yet tender and flavourful, and the beef tendon slow-cooked to the right degree of gelatinous tenderness.
