City Harvest 6 may be sentenced today

Six former leaders of City Harvest Church - who were found guilty last month of misusing some $50 million in church funds - may learn of their fate today. The prosecution and defence will present oral submissions on sentencing in court, and the judge may hand down the sentences today.

The prosecution has asked for stiff sentences for all six, including a jail term of 11 to 12 years for church founder Kong Hee.


PM Lee in KL for Asean Summit

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be in Kuala Lumpur from today to Sunday for the 27th Asean Summit and related meetings. The summit, which officially opens tomorrow, will be attended by the leaders of all 10 Asean member countries. It comes on the eve of a major milestone for the regional grouping - the establishment of an Asean Community on Dec 31 this year.

Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will deliver the keynote address today at The Straits Times Global Outlook Forum 2015, in which experts and journalists will discuss the region's challenges, such as the rising geopolitical temperature and dealing with the threat of terrorism.
