This year’s Read! Fest shines the spotlight on SingLit, or Singapore Literature, with more than 70 local authors featured.

Savour the flavours of Singapore through events in all four official languages, including panel discussions under The Literary Buffet series, book launches, talks, and meet-the-author sessions.

On July 22, for instance, local English-language authors share their views in two panels: Weaving History with Fiction, on the challenges of writing historical fiction; and Literary Treats, which - in true food-loving Singaporean style - explores the role of food in writing.

At other events, find out more about local Chinese poetry, trace common themes in local Malay fiction, or take part in a Tamil discussion on whether traditional food is threatened by instant cooking methods.

Beyond the Literary Buffet, other programmes feature local voices too. Five NLB Book Clubs are holding special sessions on Singaporean authors and their works, from Constance Singam’s memoir on her cross-cultural food journey to Balli Kaur Jaswal’s novel Sugarbread.
